Emma Heath is HR Consultant at Bespoke HR
When did you join Bespoke HR and what made you want to work for us?
I joined Bespoke HR in April 2024 following a period of time off work to raise my young daughter. I had thought about moving to consultancy and I knew I wanted to work for a company that had strong values and morals, so it felt like the perfect fit.
Tell us about your HR career background, how did you get into HR and what motivated you?
HR was something I had vaguely thought about after doing my degree in Psychology but it wasn’t something I really considered at first. I worked in customer service for a few years and knew I enjoyed working with people; as well as having a busy and varied workload. A few friends suggested HR as a career path might be a good fit for me and on a bit of a whim I applied for a junior HR role – the rest is history!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love the variety involved in HR, whether it’s the different HR issues that you’re dealing with or the different industries that clients work in. It’s really refreshing and challenging to not know what the next day will bring.
What advice would you give to small business owners who don’t have any HR support or budget about how they can look after their staff and their business?
Be open and responsive to feedback from your employees.
What are the most common challenges your clients face?
Ensuring that employee relations matters are considered consistently, in line with policy, in a fast-paced work environment.
What would be your one single piece of HR advice?
Don’t wait to deal with things. As tempting as it may be to hold off on dealing with difficult things, it’s key to confront issues quickly to try and stop them escalating unnecessarily.
